After visiting Dr. Welby for a checkup, Dalton tries to persuade Consuelo to give him some sleeping pills. When his pleading fails, he obtains the drug from another source and tries to end his mental anguish forever.

Later, he goes after Trent, who in attempting to flee, is seriously injured when his car crashes into a concrete pillar.
