4th February 1975. It's the first day of the historic actors strike that would bring the country's theatre activity to a halt for nine days. They demand one day off a week. What started out as a demand develops into political challenge. Concha Velasco, Ana Belén, Tina Sainz, Juan Diego and José Sacristán are some of the artists who risked their careers and their freedom. This is the story, narrated by its protagonists, as it has never been told before.

This movie doesn't have any coherent plot. It's the portrait of the lives of different people in the hard years of post-war in Spain (the 40's), and how they manage to survive in a country desolated by the war. Like other films: La colmena or Roma (Fellini) it shows us lots of characters and some moments of their lives.

With more than thirty years, Malena Fonseca is a spinster and provincial woman who, after coincidentally meeting a Frenchman named Lucien, also a thirty-something bachelor like her, decides to marry him. The Iniesta-Galván family is a theatre company that goes from town to town offering its performances. Over the years, its members will have to adapt to changes and make decisions, like that of whether or not to continue performing. One day, unexpectedly, a son that he has fathered on his travels presents himself to Carlos Galván.

A band of young musicians will do the impossible to boycott a song they didn't like that's supposed to represent Spain in a famous musical contest.

A beautiful teenage shepherdess named Adega sleeps one night with a mysterious pilgrim in a barn of impoverished and superstitious Galicia of the nineteenth century.
