A romance blossoms between a young country woman and the grandson of the late owner of a tequila company. The young man promises to return and marry his girlfriend once he finishes his studies abroad, unaware that she has become pregnant.

One day her classmates show her a false birth certificate where it says that her father's name is Jesús García, that he is alive and resides in Mexico City, so she, with the hope of having a family, escapes from the orphanage towards Mexico City to look for her supposed father.

The original comic book series was in the style of the foto-novela. For the role of Oyuki, the photographer selected the Mexican Japanese Sachiko Tsuchiya. Born in Tepic, Nayarit, she became the most recognizable Asian Mexican of her time. The telenovela was shown in the United States in 1988 through Univision. Dulché's story was also adapted for Brazilian television in 1967 and as a comic published starting April 11, 1975 by Grupo Editorial Vid. The Brazilian version was called "Yoshiko, um poema de amor" and starred actors Luis Gustavo and Rosa Miake.

It is an adaptation of the Argentine telenovela Me llaman Gorrión, created by Abel Santa Cruz. The telenovela stars Michelle Vieth and Héctor Soberón. The story follows Julia González, a young woman whose dreams of pursuing a professional career are interrupted after her father is left paralyzed in an accident. To support her family, she disguises herself as a boy in order to find work.
