Five surreal short stories make up this Mexican anthology film.

In 1909, former judge Cristóbal Zamarripa owns Valle Nacional, a tobacco plantation where he exploits workers with the support of the tyrant Porfirio Díaz, who sends him political prisoners as slaves. The others are lured with the promise of high wages, but end up owing everything to the company store. All are tortured, raped, or killed when they protest. Another landowner whose brother was killed by Zamarripa and who falls in love with one of his daughters is going to be punished, but he flees and becomes a revolutionary.

Two single women share an apartment, work together, and sometimes swap boyfriends. None of their romantic attachments seem quite as stable or enduring as their friendship.

The young pacifist Claudio is saddened to see some children playing war. He goes with a group of rebels who make fun of him and invite him to participate in a motorcycle race where the prize is a girl. Ál wins the race with the help of Rafael, the head of the band, and decides to buy to join the group, on a trip they meet with some hippies led by a psychologist who opposes drugs. Two of the gang members, Gabriel and Bernardo, attack one of the girls; the hippies in revenge violate Mimi and sa Julia, for which Bernardo kills a hippie. Claudio fights with him but Mimi intervenes and receives a stab aimed at Claudio. Ál recalls that Rafael was a brother and a lover of her. The police arrest the hippies and scold the parents for the behavior of the young people.
