The movie 'Family Matter' focuses on the communication problems between two white-collar brothers and their parents. It deals with the consequences of the preference of video calls to face-to-face meetings brought to our daily lives by technological possibilities, and the process of this preference leading to the disinformation of family structure, internal communication of family members and social values.

Hacer is over 30 years old but 'still' single. Her two younger siblings are also unmarried. This creates great unrest in family. That day, the parents get prepare for dinner in a depressed mood. Şefik, a successful soldier, is one of the leading figures of the Committee of Union and Progress. When Abdulhamid II declares a constitutional monarchy, Şefik and his friends go to Istanbul. Sivan, at around the age of 20, is a native of the Southeastern region of Anatolia. Thinking his son's life is in peril, Saho assures Sivan's fleeing out of the country. Taken to Germany by the help of a illegal network, Sivan is located in a refugee camp. However, in this new land whose language is alien to him, Sivan will go through an ordeal which will add a new dimension to the residue of his experiences in Turkey.

Mavi Sürgün is a fictionalized account of one period of the life of a Turkish journalist who was condemned to exile for an article he wrote in 1925. He turned his punishment into a reward by creating a little paradise in what is today the holiday resort, Bodrum. In fact he is considered by some to be the first ecologist. The film concentrates on this latter aspect of his character and through flashbacks portrays the inner turmoil of a man who is trying to come to terms with his past. The slow pace is somewhat of a drawback, the flashbacks are often confusing and the protagonist is not always very convincing. But the photography of the country side is exceptional Kenan Ormanlar and the short appearance by a very theatrical Hanna Schygulla of Fassbinder fame adds a little spice to the drama.
