In a capitalist country, "Jacob's Trading House" makes money by smuggling cocaine. To hide its shady business, the firm buys up land at cheap prices and leases it to the city's unemployed. But even here, the businessmen create a situation of slavery for the settlers. The manager of the firm marries the girl he seduced to one of the colonists, a former vagrant. The girl suffers greatly from this farce and tries to return home. Her old father fights Jacob. Jacob knocks the old man down. The colonists' patience runs out and they march against the businessmen.

Banned in the Soviet Union for its "negative" content and never released, Kalatozov was forced to retreat from filmmaking for seven years because of this film. The film sets out to illustrate the old adage, "For want of a nail, the battle was lost," showing how the inferior quality of something so trivial as a nail in a soldier's boot leads inexorably to the capture of an armored train. Kalatozov had intended to demonstrate the crucial and universal importance of efficiency in Soviet industry, but the government decided that his fable gave a negative impression of the Red Army's capabilities.

A Soviet drama about class differences in a rural farm town

Dariko's family has been opressed by the wealthy farmer Droidze. He made the goverment send Dariko's husband, Simona to the gulag and after that took their land.For killing Droidze's son, who intended to insult a woman who was left alone, Dariko is also threatened with imprisonment, but she escapes imprisonment, runs away and becomes the leader of squad who defend the oppressed people.

Varden, a poor peasant decides to find a rich fiancée but in vain. Following Galaktion, his rich neighbor’s advice, he attempts a horse theft but fails and nearly escapes death. Thanks to Jujuna, his other neighbor, he finds job at the village’s blacksmith.

Two young workmen's teams are finishing a newly completed oil pipeline. A defect is discovered, which is blamed on one of the team members, Lado, and he is taken to the blacksmith shop. There is another socialist competition between the teams. A machine tool part suddenly goes missing from the first team, which will disrupt the entire work. The head of the second team is accused of stealing the part, but it soon turns out that he stole it from Lado in order to take revenge. At the general meeting, they demand Lado's dismissal, but the young worker's foreman intervenes and, at his request, Lado remains in the factory. In 1905, the son of a revolutionary executed by the king's government continues his father's work. Due to the events of 1917, he is arrested, but he manages to escape and calls the workers to revolt. The revolution broke out in Georgia as well. In these battles, the life of a revolutionary dies, at whose grave he takes an oath of loyalty to bright ideas.

The action of the film takes place in 1905-07. The main characters are a revolutionary who escaped from Metekhi prison and two brothers who hate each other.
