Young detective investigates a complex crime starting with two movie tickets found in the pocket of one of the criminals.

Police captain Alyoshin is investigating a case related to the theft of opium at a chemical factory warehouse and everything suggests that the offender must be sought among the employees. One of them is familiar to Alyoshin in another matter but despite being confident in his honesty, Alyoshin suspects something is wrong.

Junior Lieutenant Maleshkin, an unshooted graduate of the school, commands the crew of the self-propelled gun SU-100. All the subordinates of Maleshkin are older than him and much more experienced. The authority of the young commander is tested at every step, he quarrels, then reconciles with his crew.

The plot is based on the defense of Petrograd from Yudenich's troops in 1919.
