Young adolescent girl Jenna's mother is dying, while at the same time Jenna is turning from a young girl into a young woman. So it is difficult for her to admit that she is afraid to lose her mother; instead she behaves contrary to how one would expect.

When John returns home to his father after serving time in prison, he is looking forward to starting his life afresh. However, in the local community his crime is neither forgotten nor forgiven.

They are people who have important significance for each other, but are not honest with each other. They live in a shadow world of lies and half truths and just waiting for the truth to come forward so they can continue their lives in a new direction.
