While returning to Leningrad from a visit to his brother, Professor Artyom's car breaks down and he finds assistance at an isolated farmhouse occupied by Alexey, his wife, a Vietnamese laborer, and a stranger who wanders around the farm. A new manager comes to the design bureau, he thinks outside the box, rejects routine...

The film is based on real events and tells about a major accident that occurred during the construction of another Leningrad metro station in the spring of 1974.
