In October, 1956, during the Hungarian revolution against communism, a small town's students burn their russian grammar books believing they'll never have to learn russian language again. After the revolution is crushed by the soviet troops, the students have to have a russian book to be not kicked out of the school. A young boy risks his life and limb to help his idol, an older boy from the school finding a book while he tries to be a friend of him.

Adam lives in the poorest part of Eastern Hungary in isolation from society, works as a shepherd on a farm and lives with his police officer father in an oppressive relationship. Hip-hop and rapping is important for Adam, this is the only way he can express his feelings and get rid of his speech impediment. One day he unexpectedly achieves success in a national online talent show, as Larry, with a song he wrote about his father's unforgivable sins. Adam makes it to the finals, but soon realizes that he is unable to rap in front of others. In order to grow up to his popular online alter ego, Adam must break through his inner barrier and face the strange authority of his father.

Before Dawn has a single shot which is several minutes in length. Technically this is immaculate, visually it is stunning. The story is set in a field; where the field is we don't know, but a lone truck drives up into the field and stops. A horn beeps and from beneath the long grass thirty of so people appear and proceed to enter the truck. We take it they hiding from something and this is their doorway. The truck leaves, but only to be greeted by a mass of police and even a helicopter blocking their path.
