It was a long time ago, when there was still a bondhold in Ukraine. Life was hard for the common people then... But in the evenings, the village boys with the girls went out into the sleeping streets, and a song began to sound, and the vechornytsi rushed through the village, cheerful, mischievous.

A bunch of countryside people decide to exchange roles between men and women.

Three boys live in the same house and go to the same school in Kiev. After one of the boys gets in trouble, their friendship is put to a serious test for the first time in their lives.

Varya Kravets remains on her native collective farm after graduating from school. Her first love also came to her. The death of her beloved is all the more unexpected for her. Fellow villagers are helping to overcome the crisis.
