Grave robbing, torture, possessed nuns, and a satanic Sabbath: Benjamin Christensen's legendary film uses a series of dramatic vignettes to explore the scientific hypothesis that the witches of the Middle Ages suffered the same hysteria as turn-of-the-century psychiatric patients. But the film itself is far from serious-- instead it's a witches' brew of the scary, gross, and darkly humorous.

The film presents Mr. Larsen, who without wanting to and without knowing it, is ruthless when he rides a bicycle and spreads fear and arouses anger around him. Also at home, he acts ruthlessly until his son reminds him of §2. The film ends with an invitation to people to become §2 people. §2 requires people to exercise caution and consideration.

The young mechanic Borge Rasmussen works in Salling Harbour and lives with the slightly older Marinus Frederiksen, who chairs the city's port workers. Marinus sees in Borge, who has lost his parents, his only friend and is easily influenced by his extremist views.

Kjeld Petersen plays a merchant who has stolen his clothes when he is out take a dip in the Sound. He stopped by the police, and they find a call to military service in his pocket, after further complications lands him at the barracks, where he came under the loving care of 66 (Dirch compatible) and 65 (Ove Sprogø). So the stage is set for lots of fun and games, in the right old style.

There is conflict, money transactions, love, hypocrisy and villainous streaks when the fine world and the hill folk meet. Behind the Red Gates is a terrific folk comedy that takes us behind the attractions at the traditional amusement park in Klampenborg.

Depiction of the social democratic activist and politician Peter Sabroe, who in the time around the turn of the century went to fight for the oppressed, oppressed and abused existences.

The rich couple Jytte and Ole spend their lives partying and having fun. After another evening and night of partying, the couple decides to get divorced. The next day they tell Uncle Frederik, who instead proposes a bet: for a year, Jytte and Ole will live on 400,- DKK a month, so that they can experience how ordinary people live. They agree to the proposal and move into a small apartment. Gradually, they learn to cope, but give up the bet after a month. The film deals with a problem that affects us all. Whether you are rich or poor, old or young, you can be attacked by tuberculosis. In many, many cases, you can also be cured and leave the hospital or sanatorium with a certificate stating that you are free of infection and that, provided you attend your check-ups, you pose no danger to other people. This is what happens to Bente, a young office worker.

Frederik Larsen (Lau Lauritzen Jr.), a sailor and has sailed since he was 15. Now he has lost the desire for a sailor life, especially after his best friend Bob was lost in a hurricane. When his ship docks at Copenhagen, shortly before Christmas, he signs off with all his hire on the pocket. He seeks accommodations in sailor home Bertel, located on the nice side of Nyhavn. Here he can stay and eat for very little money. He delivers his kitbag to the concierge Henrik (Mogens Hermansen) before he was lured by accordion music and the laughter that comes to him from the "naughty" side of Nyhavn. In the Cafe "The black sails", he accidently joins Inger (Lisbeth Movin) at the same table, whose profession is not in the phone book, although it is the world's oldest. Inger is in the company of an unemployed stoker Vladimir W. Olsen (Poul Reichhardt) that is full of scams, and has a good mood.

In an idyllic Danish town lives grocery Frost, a very wealthy man, and his greatest wish is that his son Hans will become a lawyer and reach a very prestigious position. But Hans can't complete high school and don't like studying. His main interest is music, but this he must keep hidden because both his parents are against it.

In the year 1646, Denmark is at peace. Only recently have the last occupying troops left Jutland, leaving behind the sad traces of iron heels. The administration has partially collapsed, the kingdom is short of money, and what money there is is unevenly distributed. This is the unusual and sad background to this unpretentious account.

A bunch of wagons are crossing the border. It's the Karla Circus, which, after a rough season in Germany, is gonna try its luck in Denmark. The great film director Stenbuk reads sensational articles about a major smuggling affair, and he sends a manuscript back to two writers with the message that if they do not come up with a smuggling-themed manuscript within eight days, they can run and chicken.

The young siblings at the Hejrenæs estate, Vibeke and Hans-Henrik, have always gotten along well, so Hans-Henrik decides to celebrate his sister's 21st birthday with a big party at the estate. During the party, the siblings' childhood friend, Ulla, provokes an engagement with Hans-Henrik, and at the same party, Vibeke learns that she is "only" an adopted child. From that day on, Vibeke realizes that she is in love with Hans-Henrik, and suddenly the stage is set for a sharp conflict between Ulla and Vibeke.
