In this biopic, Marlene Dietrich leaves Berlin for Hollywood, where she establishes herself as an international star through various film roles.

The two twelve-year-old girls Charlotte Palfy and Louise Kröger meet on a language trip to Scotland and discover that they are twins who were separated shortly after birth. Charlotte, the daughter of a music hall composer, is cool, self-confident and cheeky, dresses accordingly and listens to techno music. Louise, who grew up with her mother, an advertising executive, wears more "old-fashioned" clothes, is shy and reserved, but conscientious and orderly. Determined to play fate, the two swap roles - at the end of the journey, Louise travels as Charlie to her father, who works as a composer in Berlin-Kreuzberg, while Charlie travels as Louise to her mother in Hamburg, where she works in an advertising agency. The girls realize that getting their parents back together is not as easy as they thought.

Bank manager Frank and writer Patrizia meet by coincidence again and again at the airport. They commute between Dusseldorf and Paris, but behind their travels are two fateful stories. Brothers Helmut and Wolfgang Kaminski live on opposite sides of the still porous Iron Curtain: Helmut works as a reporter for radio in the American sector, Wolfgang as an SED functionary for the construction of socialism. His father Otto was a brigade leader at the large construction site in Stalinallee, where the demonstrations began on June 16. On June 17, 1953, the East Berlin workers formed an uprising.

13-year-old Radost lives alone with her father Bruno. But he is not like other fathers; he suffers from oligophrenia: he has roughly the mental capacity of a ten-year-old. However, this intellectual disability has not prevented Bruno from being a great father to his daughter all these years. With Radost's awakening puberty, however, the first serious problems are now becoming apparent. Radost is becoming increasingly aware of how much she is mentally superior to her father. Her responsibility, which until now has been a part of their relationship, is becoming a great burden for the young girl, who actually wants to lead the normal life of a 13-year-old.

Several young girls were killed in a rural area. Thus Inspector Matthaei has to travel to the region where it happened and has to search for the killer. When all the people suspect a roamer to be the killer he gets lynched and everybody thinks that the crimes will stop now but not Matthaei who searches for a blond girl that looks just like the ones that were murdered. He finds one and stays with her and her mother, attracting the murderer with the girl trying to catch him this way.
