A re-imagination of Japanese Emperor Hirohito’s final days in power as WWII draws to a close.

Based on a painting by M. Vrubel, a poem by M. Lermontov and the play "Faust" by Goethe. This film is the first part of the trilogy 'Everlasting Variations'. The author attempts to expose the atmosphere of early 20th century Russian romanticism, which Vrubel's works so brilliantly illustrate.

A director with a rather "unyielding" character is assigned to make a film about the birth of the one millionth inhabitant. However, when he finds the heroine of his story, there is no much "positive" to show as this family hardly suits for advertising happy life...

World War II is raging on the Eastern front but the soldier Nikanor has been sent to Siberia: bot as a prisoner, but as the leader of a motley group of entertainers who travel from village to village giving concerts. Still, Big Brother is watching and when the entertainers encounter a strange man in the woods there is trouble brewing. One of the performers falls in love with the mysterious backwoodsman, but the secret service is after him, too.
