A king with six daughters who is extremely over protective locks them in their room at night. But for some reason they order shoes from the cobbler practically every day and the king has to pay for them. And when he ask them why, they don't give him a straight answer. A 13-year-old girl named Mai refuses to go to school due to her asthma. Her parents send her to to stay with her British grandmother in the countryside. Thinking her grandmother is a witch, Mai asks for witch lessons. Her grandmother plays along, but instead ends up teaching Mai lessons which help her become more responsible and enjoy the simple aspects of life.

Maurya, who lives in a village on the coast of Ireland, has lost her husband, father-in-law, and five sons to the sea. With a sense of foreboding, she predicts that by nightfall she will have no living sons remaining.

A priest (Robert Ginty) learns that he fathered a child during his tour of duty in Vietnam and that the mother and child has relocated to Houston, Texas in the Little Saigon quarters. Searching for them, he also finds massive prejudice against the Vietnamese people, particularly among the fishing community in which they are trying to work. Setting out to right the wrongs, the priest tends to use more fisticuffs than friendly, priestly persuasion.
