Ted Hughes

The story of the making of The Bell Jar, the unique, semi-autobiographical novel written by American writer Sylvia Plath (1932-63), published in February 1963, shortly before her death.

The Reverend Nicholas Lumb is taken into the other world by elemental spirits and replaced by an exact copy, a changeling made from an oak log. When the spirits have finished with him he is 'cancelled'. Eventually the original Lumb turns up roaming about the west of Ireland.
