The story revolves around the pain of children that parents have, even adopted ones in India. Shankar, played by Danny, is a small-time crook who is given number one by gang leader (Kader Khan), though his accomplice No. 7, who uses him and gets him embroiled in a false murder. Shankar who deeply loves his wife Nanda (Deepti Naval) and daughter Meena (Mandakini), is devastated when he finds out that his newborn son has an incurable fever; he rushes to Dr. S. Malhotra (Suresh Oberio), who refuses to treat his son out of turn--and the baby dies. Full of vengeance, Shankar abducts the doctor's son Shoorveer and hands him to Iqbal to maim and make a beggar. Widowed by the sudden passing of his wife, Superintendent of Police, Choudhry, brings up his son, Rajesh, on his own, teaches him all known good values, and when he grows up sends him to College in Bombay, and remits money to him regularly. Choudhry would like to transfer to Bombay Police, so that he can be close to his son, and then one day out of the blue, his transfer is approved, and a delighted Choudhry writes to his son to pick him from the railway station. Upon arrival in Bombay, he does not find his son at the Railway Station, but when browsing through a newspaper he sees his son's photograph - wanted for the murder of a card-sharp. Shocked and dismayed, Choudhry attempts to piece his life together and attempts to find Rajesh before the City Police do - for he may well face the death sentence. Choudhry does find him, but only after Rajesh is accused of killing a woman named Kishori, and this time Choudhry is quite sure that there is no hope for Rajesh.

Suraj Prakash is a politician in India representing the Lok Kalyan Party. He would like to address burning issues such as poverty if and when he is voted in power. He exposes a corrupt businessman named Kanwarlal by stopping his trucks carrying illicit goods, but instead loses several party workers when the driver runs over them. Kanwarlal is arrested, but there is no evidence because the file has been misplaced by Junior Public Prosecutor Sandhya. The police file a case against Sandhya, she is arrested and held in prison for a trial. Her bail is posted and she is released. She finds out that it was Kanwarlal who had bailed her out. Then her son gets kidnapped, and it is Kanwarlal who rescues him. She is indebted to Kanwarlal and starts working with him as his attorney. What Kanwarlal does not know is that Sandhya has a questionable past, a past that may well send him to the gallows, if not end his life.

After being thrown out of his house by his father, the smuggler Sunder is forced to live a simple life and in doing so manages to reform himself and become the good son that his father always dreamed of. -SR
