A novel of the "Beur generation," Les Marcheurs revisits this little-known story.

Farida Belghoul, a teacher at a high school in the northern suburbs of Paris, has decided to withdraw her own children from the school system. Believing the system is in a state of total collapse, she wants to save her own children—as she puts it. Alternating between outrage and disillusionment, Farida fights a daily battle to keep her "closed-door" school alive.

The story of a second-generation sibling group: Samira claims to be studying in Grenoble while actually living in Paris, unbeknownst to her parents.

This docudrama is inspired by the life of Farida Belghoul; it follows Samira as she accompanies her retired Algerian father, who has decided to return "home" to Kabylia. Born and rooted in France, she attempts to integrate into the traditional community. The departure is experienced as a family rift.
