A chronological and thematic history of French rap, told through a list of 11 short films, emblematic titles from 1990 to the present day. Each episode ends with an original cover by an emerging French artist or rapper.

"EJM QUI EST-IL ?" is a documentary directed by Mehdi BARA and released in 2011. It features numerous testimonies from fellow rappers such as Akhenaton, Oxmo Puccino, Disiz La Peste, Kery James, Rohff, among others. A Flower in the Mouth is a film diptych about time running out and how to live through the days that remain. The first act, filmed as an observational documentary in the world’s largest flower market, follows millions of bouquets transiting through a cavernous refrigerated hangar to be sold at auction, an industrial process at once both beautiful and terrifying. The film transitions to fiction in a second act freely adapted from a Pirandello play. A man with a flower-shaped tumour on his lip accosts a traveller in an all-night café. Their seemingly mundane conversation becomes a metaphysical monologue as the man, feeling death approach, clings to life by scrupulously observing its activity, watching reality in every detail, as if to fill the gap between himself and the rest of the world.

Ninth is a promising young rapper whose reputation does not exceed even the few streets of his neighborhood. With his band and supported by Keuj, hairdresser apprentice producer, he tries to attend concerts and trying to break into the music, to the chagrin of his mother, who would see him in a more conventional career at the post office...
