A high school senior becomes unexpectedly pregnant. Unwilling to let fate dictate her future, she decides to place her baby for adoption so she can pursue the life she originally planned. Determined to find the ideal family herself, she draws interest from a same-sex couple who have not yet come out to their families and a lonely, unmarried social worker searching for a family of her own. But what is truly the best choice for the child?

Across three eras, eerie dreams of a red snake connect the intertwined fates of two families. In 2026, Xiao Lian’s play about her grandmother Paochu’s guerrilla tales sparks a political backlash. Seeking Paochu’s hideout with the guide, Yulao, they find a dead Vietnamese logger. In 1989, police informant JunXian breaks from his handlers after confessing to Ya-Hong, Xiao Lian’s mother, who's the editor in chief of a magazine, then is framed for robbery and is tortured by the police. In 1952, A-Kun, an idealistic enforcer for Paochu’s guerrillas is also a henchman for them. History repeats itself as love and justice struggle against a legacy of hatred.

On a romantic night, she goes on a date with “him.” Through the taste of the delicious meal and the in-depth conversation with him, she recalls the lovely memories from the past.

Back in his old family home, a couple expecting their first child is thrown into a standoff when a pipe bursts—fix it with money, or hold on to something harder to let go.
