Im weißen Rößl (English title: White Horse Inn or The White Horse Inn) is an operetta or musical comedy by Ralph Benatzky and Robert Stolz in collaboration with a number of other composers and writers, set in the picturesque Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria. It is about the head waiter of the White Horse Inn in St. Wolfgang who is desperately in love with the owner of the inn, a resolute young woman who at first only has eyes for one of her regular guests.

The pub “Zum Weißen Lamm” (the White Lamb) is filled to the brim with nasty bores. The innkeeper, played by a sweat-soaked Helmut Qualtinger, and his self-righteous circle of regulars are thrown into turmoil when a quest who is supposedly “the Rasberry picker,” a former SS officer, checks in.

A man kills women because he was not loved by his mother and in his puberty he was dismissed by girls as sexually unattractive. And whenever he meets women now, he just cannot control himself.

Vienna, 1753. Baron Neuhaus is flirting with two ladies-in-waiting, hoping to get a job at the imperial court. He succeeds, and the empress orders him to investigate the immoral conduct in the palace of which Neuhaus himself is the cause.

On November 3, 1918, a group of Austro-Hungarian officers in a makeshift hospital of the Austro-Hungarian Army, somewhere in the Karawanks, is completely cut off from the outside world by persistent snowstorms. A machinist's mate manages to reach the trapped men and bring them the news that the war is lost and the monarchy will be divided. Initially, they plan to shoot him as a deserter. But when the news is confirmed, everyone wants to return to their homeland. For Colonel von Radosin, his world collapses, and he shoots himself.
