Mr Basse – a cheerful, if somewhat lazy fellow – reluctantly shows up at the employment agency. It soon transpires that he is no good at selling newspapers. Young Jörgen Steenfeld is the heir of it over the chimney-indebted estate Steensgaard and unable to clear up its finances. Detective Barker has his work cut out for him when his red-haired nanny, Kate Blond, turns out to be a master thief in disguise. Barker’s close friends are a wealthy count and countess who has recently purchased a valuable piece of jewellery at an auction. With a poisoned sewing needle, Kate knocks the countess out and steals the jewellery. She sets the countess’ clock back an hour so the nanny-job is a bulletproof alibi when Barker investigates the case. Barker is at a loss until his trained eyes spot a red hair at the crime scene. The merchant Blomberg is out in the countryside with his daughters and housekeeper when the idyll is suddenly shattered. The daughters head off to have fun with two young guys from Copenhagen who are on a road trip, and the vagabonds Pat and Patachon seize the chance to interfere for their own gain. The preserved material is the original Swedish version titled 'Landsvägsriddare', translated to 'Tyvepak' in Danish. The film was a huge economic success to the then Swedish owned production company Palladium. It is the first film, in which Pat and Patachon appear as a team, although not in their final constellation: As always, Pat is played by Carl Schenstrøm, whereas Patachon is embodied by Aage Bendixen instead of Harald Madsen. The old Italian Guido Bruzzio and his granddaughter Mona have ended up in one of the big cities in the Nordic countries, where he runs a plaster business. He has found a couple of tenacious helpers who go to work with life and desire.

The attic of a city house is the home to a colony of artists. Among them is a writer, whose corpus is larger than her output. We also meet a hard-of-hearing poet who can still hear the grass growing. There's a painter, a sculptor and more. All are penniless - hoping that one day they will experience their breakthrough. "The Seventh Heaven", as the corridor is called, also houses two prominent residents, Fyrtårnet and Bivognen. They have set up a small diner and engage lively with the artist from the colony.

The man-hungry “vampire,” later to be popularized by America’s Theda Bara, made her screen debut in this Danish melodrama directed by August Blom. Clara Wieth starred in the title role of the Vampire Dancer, which is just what she was: a dancer performing her seductions on-stage. Off-stage, the young girl is kindhearted and a bit naïve. Director Jessen lives with his sons Fritz and Jørgen in a country house on the coast of Øresund.
