Disappointed with her life so far, Irena leaves her husband Zenon and leaves for Paris . He lives a free life there with his lover Duval. The millionaire Geist, her secret admirer, who insidiously led to the separation of her husband, being his false friend, learns about it. Desperate Zeno, who tries to commit suicide, enters the care of nurse Nelly, who also looks after little Tola; an emotional bond is born between them. Meanwhile, Irena, summoned by a millionaire planning a wedding with her, returns to Warsaw , where further complications arise between her, Geist, lover and husband.

Based on a story by Michel Linsky, "Adieu, Mascotte" revolves around an artist's model named Mascotte (Harvey) who ekes out a hand-to-mouth existence in the Parisian art colony. In dire need of money to finance a friend's operation, Mascotte auctions herself off at an artist's ball. She is "bought" by a novelist named Jean (Igo Sym), who merely wants to teach his flirtatious wife a lesson. Discreetly keeping his distance, Jean persuades Mascotte to pose as his mistress so that his wife will become jealous and return to his arms. Of course, things don't go as planned.

Marie, a cashier at the Viennese Grottenbahn (Grave Railway) Zum Walfisch, and Baron Christian von B. fall in love, but the dancer Valette, who always wears a mask over her face, interferes in their relationship. Christian eventually follows Valette to Paris. When he tears the golden mask from her face, he is shocked to discover that Valette is disfigured by an illness.
