Directed by Tin Aung Myint Oo, “Nu Nu Nge Nge” (1970) is a black-and-white Myanmar drama that portrays the life of an innocent rural girl who comes to the big city of Yangon and faces various hardships. Along the way, she falls in love with Thet Htwe and struggles to overcome the challenges of life together with him.

Win Oo is the youngest of six brothers. Before his father died, he told him to visit his older brothers’ homes and observe their wives before deciding to marry.

The story follows the idea of the Myanmar proverb, “Killing two birds with one stone.” The main character fights against ruthless gangs who hold grudges against him while also protecting the person he loves. These conflicts are portrayed through intense action sequences and dramatic confrontations. The protagonist, played by Kyaw Hein, is an honest man who works hard to build his life and support his family and loved one. However, he unexpectedly becomes involved in a conflict with local gangster groups. When the gangsters begin targeting and trying to harm his lover, Sanda, the protagonist can no longer remain silent. He decides to stand up and fight back against them.

The film is a romantic drama that portrays the love story of young people, focusing on the mysterious ways of fate that bring together two lovers (or young individuals) with different backgrounds and personalities. Kyaw Hein’s Acting Debut This film was the first movie that U Kyaw Hein acted in before becoming a leading actor, marking a historic beginning in his artistic career. A Memorable Theme Song The film’s theme song, “Phu Sar Lan Sone” (The Crossroads of Destiny), became widely popular across generations and remains deeply cherished in the hearts of audiences to this day.
