The Philippines, 1898. Fifty Spanish soldiers arrive in the small village of Baler to rebuild an outpost. Although the war against the Filipinos and their American allies is almost lost, as is the Spanish Empire, the garrison will endure a cruel siege for eleven months. Andrés's wealthy father-in-law runs a textile factory; he retires and brings Andrés to Madrid, with wife and son, to run the company. Isabel Jimenez is a teenager witnessing a horrible feud between her own family and the Fuentes family, a feud involving broken hearts, property disputes and a mysterious fire that destroyed the Fuentes house. Retired detective Laura goes back from her isolated mansion to investigate a dark murder This is a late sequel in which a retired Laura (Maria Pujalte) returns into action when the murder of an University Principal (Joaquin Climent) happens . Laura Lebrel is a brilliant homicide detective , as he solves the most twisted crimes while balancing a very busy personal and family life. Again here shows up Martin Maresca (Oriol Tarrasón) , her handsome and loyal colleague , as well as cop Lydia Martínez (Laura Pamplona) .

This movie doesn't have any coherent plot. It's the portrait of the lives of different people in the hard years of post-war in Spain (the 40's), and how they manage to survive in a country desolated by the war. Like other films: La colmena or Roma (Fellini) it shows us lots of characters and some moments of their lives.
