Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen

The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, conducted by Omer Meir Wellber, takes over Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Germany for a lyrical concert featuring soprano Golda Schultz, tenor Rolando Villazón, and baritone Ludovic Tézier. In this grandiose building constructed by Ludwig II of Bavaria, the prestigious trio performs works by Mozart, Verdi, and Lehár.

Written during the tumult of the Napoleonic Wars, Beethoven’s fifth and final piano concerto is both epic and moving. Young Austrian pianist Lukas Sternath is soloist with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, conducted by Constantinos Carydis performing from Pnyx Hill with a view of the ancient Acropolis as part of Europiano.

Recorded at Germany's Mainz Cathedral, this inspirational concert video features the glorious voice of opera star Renee Fleming, who's regarded as "the gold standard of soprano sound." With maestro Trevor Pinnock conducting, Fleming performs "Ave Maria," "Laudate Dominum" (from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Mass in C minor), "Adeste Fidelis," "Rejoice Greatly" (from George Frideric Handel's oratorio "Messiah") and "O Holy Night."

In the second part of this magnificent concert celebrating music from across Europe, Lukas Sternath, Martha Argerich, Bruce Liu and Hayato Sumino perform the finest piano concertos by Beethoven, Schumann, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff.

This is a 4-DVD set, featuring the Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi and the chamber orchestra (around 40 members) Die Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. The first 3 DVDs feature live performances of all 9 of Beethoven's symphonies, and the 4th DVD is a documentary produced for DW (Deutsche Welle) on this Beethoven project.
