This film was made in the Vierlande prison and tells the story of what it is like to be imprisoned. Nothing is explained; only fragments are visible, which slowly come together. A gaze that often cannot believe what it sees, that "does not trust its eyes."

The character and intellectual development of a 14-year-old girl from a middle-class German family at the outbreak of war, who observes closely in her small town the changes that National Socialism and war bring about in her circle of friends and acquaintances.

"It's great that we now have a man on the ward... I always say that having a man like that on the staff works wonders!" says nursing manager Petra Opels during her welcome meeting with her new employee Holger. The charming commitment-phobe has actually come to southern Germany from Berlin to escape his unresolved relationship issues. Instead, however, he once again brings a lot of turmoil to the fragile emotional lives of two women: Barbara, who works as a kitchen assistant in the same nursing home, has chosen Holger as a remedy for her loneliness. However, the tender love story is immediately thrown into turmoil when Holger soon finds himself attracted to his boss, Petra Opels.

On a winter day in 1961, 31-year-old Anna Eichmayr crosses the Grosshesseloher bridge in Munich, she suddenly stops in the middle of the bridge, opens a manhole and plunges into the depths. The film traces the young woman's life in flashbacks. It goes back to 1945.

“Grotesque dancer” Valeska Gert speaks with inimitable repartee and typical Berlin brashness about her scandals and the people she met. She recreates her grotesque dances and pantomimes for the camera with the young Nastassja Kinski.

The son of a family of immigrants dreams of becoming a great soccer star and does everything in his power to make it big. He joins the provincial team, but soon realizes that true success can only be found in the city. So he leaves his hometown and heads to Vienna, where he finally has the chance to join a professional club.
