In a futuristic Tokyo where police have been privatized and bitter self-mutilation is so casual that advertising is often specially geared to the 'cutter' demographic, Ruka is on a mission to avenge her father's assassination. Midori, an office worker, broke up with her long-term boyfriend, Kinnosuke, because a new boyfriend, Goro, proposed to her. However, Goro had an affair and easily dumped Midori. When Midori tried to take off her engagement ring, she dropped it into a pot of oil and burned her hand when she stuck it in.
