In 1941, Maria Harkavenko, a resident of the village of Parishkiv, Kyiv region, was taken to Germany for forced labor. She joined the ranks of the so-called Ostarbeiters and, with tears and sweat, wrote herself into a shameful page of human history, which will go down in textbooks under the title "Modern Slavery."

A Kharkiv resident goes to war under the pseudonym Samurai, first as a volunteer and then as a fighter in the Armed Forces. On these thorny paths, he meets and loses relatives and friends and once again reflects on what the struggle for his state is worth. It is easy to get to war, but difficult to return. The most difficult battle of the Samurai is still ahead: it is a battle with a diagnosis of PTSD and the search for a place in a peaceful life...

Maria Shtepa, a UPA veteran from Chortkiv, began her journey as a young liaison for the UPA, carrying out missions until betrayal led to her capture by the NKVD. She endured severe torture and a 10-year prison sentence, during which she documented the stories of her comrades and fellow prisoners. After her release, she returned to her hometown and now resides in the former NKVD prison building, which is now a Caritas shelter. Despite the haunting memories, Maria’s spirit remains unbroken, and she has become a writer dedicated to preserving and sharing the stories of those who sacrificed their lives for Ukraine’s freedom.
