Laurence Arcadias

Laurence Arcadias is a French-born animator, director and writter working in the United States. She holds a Diplôme supérieur d’expression plastique (DNSEP) in Animation from the Institut d'arts visuels (IAV) in Orléans, France. In 1985, she co-founded the French short film production company Amorce films. She has taught at the City College of San Francisco, the California College of Arts and Crafts, the University of California, Berkeley, the San Francisco Art Institute, the San Francisco Academy of Art University and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

During a gathering of astronomers at the American Astronomical Society Meeting, the scientists reached for the stars and made an animated short about a total eclipse of the sun that they were about to collectively observe, using the first film of an eclipse made by magician Nevil Maskelyne in 1900.
