Thor Modéen

Thor Modéen (1898-1950) was one of our great Swedish film actors and comedians. Cicerone Ulf Larsson accompanies us through Modéen's life, with the help of interviews with friends, acquaintances and colleagues and with clips from feature films, magazine films and commercials.

A famous crime novelist checks in at a hotel in the mountains under false identity.

Manager Blom and his family stop at a mountain hotel. Once there, all family members are insolent and even cruel to both guests and staff. When the hotel manager tries to get rid of the family Manager Blom buys the hotel. But all of the staff resigns while a telegram to the family Blom tells them they are ruined! To raise money the family begins to work on and operate the hotel.

An out-of-work musician is desperate for work and when his best friend sees an add requesting a cellist he signs him up. However, the work is for a female, so he creates the character Märta Letterström and joins the trio at a small-town hotel. But being a woman is not as easy as you think.

Office worker Napoleon Larsson is an unnoticed existence. One day when he arrives late for work, he gets fired, but through his wife's actions he gets alerted by the boss and advances within the company.

The boxing promoter Charlie returns from America to Sweden and needs to find a professional Swedish boxer for an upcoming fight. By chance Charlie watches Björn Harring fight off some hoodlums. Charlie sees great potential in Björn and wants to promote him for an upcoming fight, the problem is though that Björn is studying theology and is soon to become a priest. This might not look too good in a prejudiced society of the 40s with a boxing priest, but Charlie is determent to find a way.

Laban Lundström is the porter at Hotell Kåkbrinken. The hotel is threatened by wholesaler Sjökvist, who wants to pull down the house and build a new and modern house instead.

Three taxi drivers work and bet on the lottery together. One day they win a lot of money - but they find it hard to handle their new wealth.

Short comedy about an author named Viktor Mattson (Nils Poppe) whose publisher tells him that his latest book is bad. To make money, Mattson becomes a door salesman for the publisher and goes to Nyköping to sell books. After a few ifs and buts, Mattson meets Ingrid Bergsjö (Britta Brunius) whom he falls in love with.

Gugge and Nuffe work at the competing meat wholesalers AB Delikatesser and AB Skånedelikatesser. The two companies compete for a large order and the two will stop at hardly nothing to get the order

Private number 91 gets into more hijinks in this hilarious sequel.

A peddler visiting a small cottage in the winter. He tells some strange tales for the family living there.

Lisa Larsson, dancer at a theater, witnesses a traffic accident and banker Brenner's private driver asks her to be a witness. When her friends see her talk to the driver, they start to believe that she is Brenner's fiancée. The manager of the theater, Gravander, gives her the leading part in his latest show, in order to befriend Brenner. She also sings from the balcony of the hotel and the panic arising among listeners outside the hotel. In Norway, talks about the dissolution of the Union and the Swedish socialists with Hjalmar Branting (Victor Sjöström) is in the lead for independence.
