NRAbdul Rashid and Noor Jahan are a happy couple belonging to a middle-class family. One day, Rashid comes home drunk, upset, and for some reason fights with Noor. When she resists, in a fit of rage, he pronounces Talaq three times. The local mullah says that this constitutes a real divorce and Noor has to leave her husband's house. Mullah suggests that for Rashid and Noor to be a couple, the Koran has a way out and it is called Nikah Halaala: where a woman, after being divorced by triple talaq, marries another man, consummates the marriage, divorces again to remarry her ex-husband. Although Noor tearfully navigates this slippery slope to return to her husband and children, society at large has other plans.
