Annie Lloyd

This 3-channel video installation shows a woman dressed in a slip who rummages around a basement. She births a baby doll, then finds another one, wondering if it's her or her mother.

Oh, Rapunzel is a fairy tale wrapped around a documentary. Set on the grounds of a decaying estate in Philadelphia, the video documents the life of eighty-year-old Annie Lloyd Hord Condit, a descendent of what was once one of the great families of Pennsylvania and mother of the artist. Her story is told through both documentary footage and scenes from the fairy tale Rapunzel. Condit revises the classic tale and restages the old woman's life.

Annie Lloyd is a daughter's complex and poetic documentation of the last four years of her mother's life and a portrayal of the creativity and wisdom of old age.

A video essay that seeks to represent, study and pay homage to the North American filmmaker Cecelia Condit, covering all of her film work and video installation, portraying her through devices of semiotics, aesthetics and cinematographic language.
