The plot is reminiscent of a fairy tale, when the husband goes sailing, and as a farewell, the wife ties a thread to his button so that she knows where her beloved is.

Sergei takes the body of his deceased younger brother, Misha, to his native village to bury him with his family, but he is thwarted by Misha's ghost, who repeatedly "digs up" from the grave and returns to his brother.
