Florian König is in his early 20s and lives with his mother. He assists her whenever he can. In the weekly newspaper "Alt Ausseer Bote" he reports on a foundling that has been handed in at the baby hatch of Bad Aussee hospital, and is subsequently dismissed by editor-in-chief Anton Grimmeisen. But when the editor Caroline Moosbichler hears about it, she demands Florian's immediate reinstatement. He is to stay on the story. In the process, he finds out that the mother acted out of pure desperation, and he gets on the trail of the love between Jutta Lechner and Thomas Gschnitzer. This love is the origin of the child.

Kati and Steffi have been best friends since they were six. Now they're both 17 and enjoying the ups and downs of becoming adults together. The wedding of investment advisor Christian Zeiler to Katharina Buchheim, the daughter of a wealthy family, is just around the corner. 19-year old Benjamin, called Ben, works as a cashier on the fairground und is impressing girls with his youthful self-confidence. After an argument with his uncle, who had caught the boy with a 16-year old girl, Ben leaves his familiar surroundings und ventures into the world beyond the fairground. At Berlin′s Ostbahnhof, he meets the much older cookmaid Hanna, who puts homeless Benjamin up in her flat. Ben finds work as a welder in a factory where he at first has to cope with the prejudice of his sceptical co-workers.

A young woman named Karin Schröder studied biophysics in Moscow and has now returned to the GDR with her diploma. She is thirsty for action, eager to work and now wants to put her specialized knowledge into practice. But at Professor Angerer's institute, where she ends up, there are no opportunities to apply her knowledge. Although Angerer shows her a safe route up the career ladder, Karin sees this more as a means of keeping her quiet - so she turns down the offer. On her own initiative, she goes in search of allies in order to find her way after all. Angerer then instructs her to abandon her self-initiated work - which leads to both professional and personal disaster for the young woman.

Living holograms, called Hollies, are helped by their human finders to get home.
