In 2026, the Eurovision Song Contest celebrates its 70th anniversary. With around 160 million viewers, the ESC is one of the world's biggest music spectacles. This documentary looks back on seven decades filled with music, emotions and passion. From its beginnings as a chanson competition in 1956 through flamboyant outfits and spectacular performances to unforgettable victories, bitter defeats and the political debates of the recent past. Stars like Jean Paul Gaultier, Hape Kerkeling, Tom Neuwirth (aka Conchita Wurst), and Germany's first ESC winner, Nicole, share their experiences on and off stage. The documentary paints a multifaceted portrait of the ESC, highlighting its profound influence on music, fashion, and society, as well as on the LGBTQIA+ community, thus becoming a vibrant journey through seven decades of European pop culture history.

At the behest of their boss, London private detective Charly Biff and his assistant Ingrid are supposed to relax on a cruise along the Adriatic coast. Even before the ship sets sail, Charly gets on the trail of drug smugglers in the port of Portoroz. The young musician Ralph Osterwalder, born in Bern in 1922, is tired of working in a big band. He dreams of a small, flexible ensemble. In 1944, he founded his own combo in a hotel room. In 1949, fierce disputes arose. The newly founded Hazy Osterwald Sextet, featuring Sunny Lang, Dennis Armitage, Curti Prina, Werner Dies, and Johnny Ward, soon made international music history. Fast-paced, catchy music, interspersed with humorous show interludes, became the band's unmistakable trademark.

Using a shortwave transmitter, they are even able to broadcast their pop songs all the way to Brazil, after which the music lovers are offered a gig.
