Ukraine, 1919. The friendship of two boys, Anton and Jacob, one Christian, the other Jewish, manages to survive the prejudices and hatred that dominate the minds of adults in the aftermath of World War I and the Russian Revolution.

A dystopian story set in post-war Ukraine, where a frustrated film director struggles to make the most of his life after being denied the opportunity to pursue his movie-making career. Estranged from his wife and daughter, who have been living in Vienna and are reluctant to return to their war-torn nation, the director tries to find solace in his conviction that the difficult times will pass and life will return to normal.

Men on the streets get chased by stares. Someone’s walking a chihuahua, someone’s out jogging, but everyone’s uneasy glances are fixed at Petro and Andriy — recruitment officers inspecting military documents, holiday or not. When the officers encounter the freelance IT guy, Sashko, the young man has two requests before he’s taken away: that they stop by the store so he can buy food for his cat, and that he is allowed to bless his Easter bread.

After his stand-up routine goes awry, Luka goes to drink his sorrows away in a bar. There he meets a mysterious woman in a bar, with the two immediately hitting it off and deciding to go to the former's apartment together. However, as the night goes on, what was supposed to be a one time hook-up leads to the two discovering much more about themselves and they form a powerful spiritual connection.

A film student obsessed with making a movie about loneliness grabs his camera and sets out chasing old men. It seems he finally manages to catch up with one of them.

Dora visits Kyiv from Berlin and reconnects with old friend Dima. While exploring the city, the joy of reunion turns to frustration as he questions her emigration. Exhausted, she ends the meeting. Later, Dima confesses her feelings and pleads for her to stay. Angry, Dora refuses to change her life.
