Alexey Sukharev is a police captain. Now he and his friend Zhenya are trying to apprehend Zverev, the leader of a major drug trafficking ring. The gangster wants to negotiate with Sukharev, but for Alexey, his work is a matter of honor, not profit. The intractable policeman ends up behind bars, accused of a murder he didn't commit. His wife and son remain free, and they will wait for him no matter what. But the gangsters want to deprive Sukharev not only of his freedom, but also of the most important thing in life - a family.

The film takes place during one day of operation of a railway line, the capacity of which is lower than necessary. A disaster occurs: a passenger train crashes into a tank train, the driver's assistant is killed, and traffic on the section is delayed. The film explores the patterns that led to the accident.
