In the remote Turkana region of Kenya, 13-year-old Nawi's aspirations of higher education are shattered when her father plans to marry her off to a stranger to ensure the family a substantial amount of livestock.

Anam, a professional mourner, takes on the task of guiding a wealthy family through a funeral ritual for its recently deceased patriarch but she soon discovers that the ritual may be just as much about her confronting her past encounter with death as it is about the family coming to terms with long-buried secrets.
