When a young boy arrives in a small Mexican village, a profound friendship blossoms with a local kid — and a dark secret seals their bond forever.

Following the sudden death of their third newborn child, the Rangel family takes refuge in their lakeside home. Desperate to escape reality, Olga suffers a psychotic episode and begins to suspect that her husband and children have been replaced by imposters. Convinced that her real family has been abducted, she will stop at nothing to get them back.

María, Pablo, and Juanito live in an orphanage under the care of Father Sócrates, which is on the verge of closing due to a lack of resources. Juanito is diagnosed with a heart condition, further complicating their situation. Don Lucho, the owner of the town's seafood restaurant, tells the children an old urban legend about "Tétano," an ancient race car that used to beat everyone and win every race but stopped competing by the pilot's choice. The only solution to pay off all the debts and save Juanito's life with an operation is to convince Tétano's pilot to race again.
