Meanwhile, CJ (late 20s, she/her) and Jane (mid-20s, she/her) watch the drama unfold, trying to stay out of it. As the séance begins, Scout stumbles upon a shocking secret, Emily and Willa had an affair. Before they can process it, strange things start happening, and Scout realizes they are the only one who can actually see Willa’s ghost. As Willa stirs up chaos, taunting Scout and pushing tensions to a breaking point, the group’s friendships unravel, leading to a dramatic and absurd showdown.

Through forty interconnected vignettes, Human Theories is a comedic kaleidoscope exploring how people try, and often fail, to connect with one another in this weird world. Filmed over a year on location in New York City with a diverse ensemble cast of over 50 actors and non-actors, the film is an experimental love letter to the awkward struggle of modern city living.
