When Paula, a restless Midwesterner yearning for a fresh start in California, unexpectedly reunites with Sloane—her enigmatic high school crush—the spark between them reignites instantly. What begins as a casual catch-up soon turns into a spontaneous cross-country road trip. But as the miles roll by, hidden secrets and buried traumas surface, and their blossoming romance takes a darker turn. With unexpected consequences at every stop, the journey becomes a fight for trust, survival, and the truth—testing how far they’re willing to go for love, and what they’re running from.

Paula and Jamie are on their way to Thebes-Thebes, Kentucky that is. As Paula drives Jamie through the Midwest, they make a few stops along the way that deepen their relationship. Their romantic night reaches its peak at the drive-in movie theatre. Near the end of their journey, Paula wants nothing more than for Jamie to change her mind about seeking revenge on her father. Jamie, prioritizing her trauma, tells Paula that they will continue to her father’s house.
