The Horrible Thing eats the worst children in town and Henry is a prime candidate - but no matter how many times he is warned… …Henry Hamilton Hobbs is not afraid of the Horrible Thing.

Newly moved to the US from New Zealand, 12 year old Muggy struggles to feel truly at home in a place so different from what she's always known. She misses the trees, the land, the rugby - everything. Deciding on her own to take some time off of school, unbeknownst to her dad, Muggy sets out into the snow covered wilderness in search of home.

An ordinary afternoon brings two children a discovery they could have never dreamed - one that poses to be thwarted by their little brother - who can't keep a secret.
