Leopold Habernal, lives a quiet, modest life as a postman. 10-year-old Rosmarin von Stetten lives with his widowed father Robert in the big city. During the holidays one day in the morning Rosmarin goes to the lake near the castle and meets Thymian, the poorest boy of the village, whose mother did not come back from the war and who has to do several jobs in the village for his living. The boys enter a boat, but both fall into the lake. Thymian crawls out of the water first and is found by a servant from the castle, who thinks he is Rosmarin and bring him to the castle and to bed. The boy doesn't know what happens and thinks he's spellbound...

After a successful concert, the singer Maria dreams about a man with a boquet of lilies, who follows her and kisses her. A short time later, she actually meets such a man: his name is Peter and he’s on his way to his bride, Helene. In the afternoon, Maria receives a valuable diamond pin from a messenger, which was actually intended for Helene. This confusion will now trigger a wild chase through concert halls and overnight trains. During all of this, Maria’s fiancée will show up, who, in light of all this nonsense, decides he’d be better off with someone less fickle and breaks off the engagement. Maria and Peter, who barely know one another, will be drawn closer together by fate and will eventually marry … and will stay so until Maria no doubt dreams of a lawyer with a divorce decree knocking on her door.

The young Styrian woman Therese Brandl desperately wants to work in the theater and therefore travels by train to Vienna to pursue artistic training. The scholarship granted by the elderly Countess Hoyer is intended to guarantee her financial independence. Unaware that she is to be picked up from the Vienna train station, the student immediately takes a taxi upon arrival and asks for recommendations for both an affordable hotel and a charming little pub. Therese gets approached by an older gentleman, a gray-haired bon vivant with considerable life experience. After several glasses of wine, they leave the establishment together and go to Therese's room. Apparently, things escalate there, and they spend the night together without having been introduced. The surprise is all the greater for Therese when she goes to the drama academy the following day to begin her training: her future teacher is none other than the gallant and lover from the previous night, Dr. Alexander Dahlen.

A clearly confused girl is found wandering around Stuttgart and can't be understood, because she's speaking in a foreign language. A plaster of paris mask of the girl's face is made for the doctors to keep as a remembrance of Luscha. But as soon as the mold is removed from her face, she suddenly seems to become an entirely different woman.

A big explosion in a pulp mill causes a lot of damage. The police suspect a crime and put up a 5,000 Mark reward for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator. Egged on by his wife Ursula, the insurance agent Rolf Kettner sees his chance to prove his detective capabilities and to track down the culprit.

Resolute Ellen takes over the operations of the Grand Hotel "Paradise" from her father and immediately goes into action to increase profits. The first thing she does is turn off the flow of money to a theatre her father was financially sponsoring. Then she throws the charming flirt Count Wetterstein out on his ass after not having paid his hotel bill for two weeks. The alleged count takes on a position as a waiter in the "Paradise" and as Ellen has, in the meantime, fallen for him, she puts him in a managerial position, where he can't so easily flirt with other women. But Wetterstein is being pursued both by the police and creditors and disappears in quick order once again.

A German who has been away too long in America and has lost all of his money needs to prove himself to his fellow citizens,which he does by foiling the robbery of his uncle and then marrying his sweetheart.

Professor Lorenz is nominated for the highest accolade of his profession, and he smiles about his sons' juvenile mismanagement of private funds. Then he learns that one of them has forged the professor's signature on several IOUs.

An ageing farmer and his young wife live in a lonely hut in the mountains. The farmer is a smuggler who the border police are trying to put a stop to. A young border hunter is sent to seduce the woman in order to find out where the man is hiding the smuggled goods. He in turn urges the woman to turn the border hunter's head so that he can go about his business undisturbed. But then the frontier hunter and the woman become truly passionate about each other, and the drama ends with murder and suicide. Based on the stage play by Karl Schönherr.

The greengrocer Ferdinand Strubel wants his daughter Marianne to marry the son of the brewery owner Baron von Schnackenberg. Since Strubel is an impossibly cheap bastard, the marriage is to take place on 20 May, which, coincidentally, is the same day the city is having a grand festival for him to celebrate his company's being in business for 100 years. Marianne, however, has fallen in love with Leopold, a gym teacher; and when he reads an article in the newspaper about the upcoming arrival of Haley's Comet on 19 May, he comes up with an idea how he can prevent the wedding from taking place: He tells Strubel that the world is going to come to an end when the comet shows up, so that Strubel will see the errors of his way, cancel the arranged wedding and will become a better person for it. An author, a businessman, a shipowner and a publisher form a business venture, which will supposedly exploit a huge find of lobsters on the island of Santa Cruz. After a report in the newspaper, the business' stocks do well. But the partners quarrel with one another and it doesn't help that there aren't any lobsters on Santa Cruz after all. Nevertheless, a team heads off to the island in a decrepit boat to open up a cannery in vain.
