In the Warsaw ghetto in 1943, Jews rise against the Nazis.

During his wandering throughout Japan, Tora-san meets a suicidal man. He travels with the man to Vienna, but winds up homesick for Japan.

A man sentenced to death escapes from a military prison and finds shelter with a resistance group that is set to liberate the country. The repressive enemy never sleeps. The escaping condemned man is also no longer the old warrior he once was: he is broken - wonders whether the resistance can put him back together.

Leopold and Franz are coach drivers and best friends. Their relationship gets strained when Franz decides to modernize by buying a taxi cab. Leopold, grumpy keeper of tradition, is not pleased.

The protagonist, Franz, copies the paintings of old masters. He slowly loses his sense of reality, resulting in angst-ridden fantasies and a desire for self-destruction. Franz has an uphill battle with the loss of values and spread of capitalism around him. He rejects advertising to the point of destroying its manifestations.

An alpine village shortly before the First World War. Widowed forester Rufman has little sympathy for his sons Friedel and Elias. Both find it difficult to cope with themselves. One day, a stranger appears whose curiosity confuses the suspicious villagers. Only Elias feels attracted to him. Travel journalist Charly, who was abandoned as a baby, happens to discover a portrait of a woman who looks like her in a brochure about a castle in Styria. When she travels there to find out more about her past, both the old lord of the castle and his son Andreas and his fiancée Vera are delighted by her interest.

Pachegg comes to Eglau in the Alps as the new forester. A poacher begins to wreak havoc there. Pachegg also gets into trouble with the attractive widow of a sawmiller who is having the leased forest cut down. Pachegg is more attracted to the pretty Ulli, daughter of the head forester Höllrigl. The girl is an enthusiastic hunter, but only with a camera.
