A slick con artist sees a chance to fleece gullible people with this device and encourages the inventor to keep working at it. One day in the lab, a freak accident results in the machine being able to look through any object and project that object on a TV screen. A young boy is waiting for him in his hotel room after the concert with a letter from his mother, Marie, which explains, that Hans is the father of the boy and that she believes he would be better off being with his father. A short time later, Marie is found in a hotel room, critically wounded by two gunshots. Detective During is put to work on the case. He arrests a suspect, who is identified by the maid and porter as being Marie’s last visitor. At first, the man says nothing; but then he tells the detective Marie’s story.

Daisy Baroness Eggloffsburg, a ball of energy, is a spoiled and rather lively, cheerful wild child who is always in the mood for pranks. 'Love and the First Railway' is what this movie's title would mean in English. This is one of those films that depicts fictional characters participating in an historic incident. The actual first railway was built in England, of course. But according to this movie, the first railway (in Germany, at least) was built from Berlin to Potsdam, in 1838. I haven't the faintest idea if that's correct, but the people who made this movie do seem to take a great deal of interest in historical accuracy, so I'll take their word for it. Anyway, a title at the beginning establishes that this movie is set in 1838.

In the fantasy state of Olivia, the robber chief Gasparone is up to all sorts of mischief. But Prefect Nasoni is not only worried about him, his son Sindulfo is also causing him headaches. He is supposed to marry Countess Ambrat, but loves Ita, the niece of Massaccio, a somewhat obscure existence. Then the elegant Erminio appears, and the countess makes eyes at him. Confusion after confusion until Massaccio is unmasked as Gasparone. Erminio turns out to be a civil servant who was set on Gasparone and now gets his beautiful countess. Sindulfo is the last to embrace his Ita.

Assistant PI Bulli is hired to find Marie Banse. He does, she is married to Thomas, they have a pretty daughter, Lore. Bulli falls for her, delivers their heritage of 5000 Marks and tries to find out who the unknown benefactor is.

Brothers Grimm adaptation. The story follows Hans, who, after seven years of service, is rewarded with a large lump of gold. As he travels home, he trades the gold for a horse, the horse for a cow, then a pig, a goose, and finally a grindstone. Despite losing the immense value of his initial payment, Hans feels increasingly free and happy, ultimately dropping the heavy stone into a well and rejoicing in having no burdens.

The stenotypist Margit is supposed to take 3,000 Marks to the bank for her boss, Mr. Plaumann, but she lazes away the time window-shopping, and eventually stands before a closed door. She follows Plaumann to Dresden, where he, believing the money is deposited in a bank as a down payment, wants to purchase a newfangled remote control from the inventor Lambach. Since Plaumann’s car breaks down on the road, Margit arrives before him and rests in the seemingly empty hotel room which later turns out to be Lambach’s. Meanwhile, Lambach himself is being spied on by the jealous cousin of his fiancée, who can’t wait to catch him in the act…

An adaptation of Homer's epic Greek poem THE ODYSSEY, this was one of a series of 1920s adventure films starring Luciano Albertini and directed by Max Obal. Albertini goes through a series of acrobatic and life-threatening adventures as he is pursued across city streets while pursuing the love of the woman he loves.

If watching a fellow facing indifference/rejection in the slums of Berlin didn't convey enough pathos, Gerhard Lamprecht gathered much of the same crew from Die Verrufenen and turned his attention to the city's population of unwanted children for the heart-tugging Die Unehelichen, released the following year. The trio of foster children at the center of Die Verrufenen are survivors who use their own resourcefulness to get by when the kids' guardians and the system itself let them down.
