Why is it that St Patrick’s Day is the only national holiday that is celebrated in almost every country across the world? Why can Irish pubs be found from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe? It seems that nearly everybody on the planet has some sort of a connection to Ireland.

Young Amelia learns from her mother Magda that she was adopted as a baby. Her biological parents are from Ireland. When Magda dies of a heart attack shortly afterwards, Amelia feels that nothing is keeping her in Germany anymore. She leaves the bookshop she inherited and her bewildered fiancé and sets off headlong to find her real family on the Emerald Isle. Upon arriving in Ireland, something magical happens to the young woman. Amelia follows the mysterious clues. This leads her to meet the attractive private detective Bobby.

After a young girl witnesses her father having an affair, she declares she will never love anybody ever again. As a result, her guardian angel is forced to abandon her. Later, when she grows to be a miserable woman, her angel is given a second chance to save her from a life of sadness. To accomplish his goal, he travels through time to recruit the woman's past and future selves to help her reconcile with her father and change her direction in life.

Receiving a mystery letter 'from her life', Lucy seeks consolation with mates Adam, Melanie, Lisa and Jamie. Angrily Lucy meets critical sender Cosmo, who urges her to set priorities among colleagues, family, friends and truth to correct her derailed life, which she finds hard to disprove by showing happiness. Lying to boss Edna costs her job. Desperate hitting rock bottom, she attempt to win successful Blake back. Her protective brother, attorney Riley, and Cosmo rather favor attractive carpet cleaner and neighborhood urchins football 'coach' Don Lockwood, who consents, yet this fails as she retracts despite good sex while he works in her apartment. Sad news about her neighbor Claire, a breakup between workaholic father Samuel and 'neglected' mother-housewife Sheila make Lucy die reconsider her own priorities.

Franziska is shocked: her husband Rainer has suddenly left her. Depressed, she decides to travel alone to her cousin Amelia's wedding in Ireland. Shortly before her departure, she notices a magical book that seems to be trying to tell her something with its regularly changing covers. Once in Ireland, Franziska believes she must help Adam, the best man who is also newly separated, win back his ex-girlfriend Sally if she wants to find happiness again herself. Only gradually does she realize the true intention of the book.
