In a small Russian village, Lyokha lives in a tiny house and draws strange circles in the fields while trying to catch radio waves in the hopes of contacting extraterrestrial civilizations. The villagers mock him for his odd habits, but everthing changes when the one he's been calling for suddenly arrives - an alien female named Yana.

On the day of the funeral, while relatives argue over the failed wake and a wedding thunders beyond the neighbor's fence, thirteen-year-old Vasilisa tries to find within herself a sense of loss that seems to be felt by everyone around her except her.
