Fritz Illing

The film tells the story of the daily lives and careers of two young people in West Berlin. They got married in Gretna Green, Scotland, where it is possible to do so without parental consent.

The film depicts scenes of everyday life in East Berlin and does not feature a narrator throughout its entire runtime. In a few instances, text panels appear to provide explanations of the images shown. The scenes are accompanied by interviews, speeches, and radio broadcasts, though these do not always correspond to the images on screen.

The short documentary film by Fritz Illing was awarded with the German Film Prize in 1960 and shows an Andalusian pilgrimage.

A look at the daily lives of the couple from "Sie heirateten in Gretna Green", who tied the knot in Gretna Green seven years ago: What has become of their plans and dreams?

A German Film Award winning short documentary.
