Qassem has an accident that causes him to experience amnesia. A rural family finds him and gives him the name Hammady. He lives happily until another accident leads to the recovery of his memories.

The story takes place during the Ottoman era. It draws on popular folklore and presents a collection of Baghdadi proverbs in an engaging dramatic format, humorously critiquing aspects of social corruption, greed, and the struggle between good and evil.
